THE 12 HOUSES (#1)

THE 1st HOUSE

The First House is often called the House of Self. It deals with matters of the ego, self-image, self-esteem, self-importance, self-worth, self-respect, self-conceit, self-confidence, one's abilities, one's appearance, and one's personality.

Here we come across the first use of the word “Cusp” in the birth chart. A cusp is the imaginary line that separates the Houses.

The cusp of the First House is the home of the Ascendant, the Astrological sign that was rising on the Eastern horizon at the precise place and moment of one's birth signifying physical appearance and awakening consciousness.

The Ascendant signifies the individual environment and conditioning that a person can receive during upbringing and the circumstances of childhood. It also influences how a person presents themselves to the world, especially in public and in impersonal situations.

By thinking of this in terms of sunrise and new beginnings, one begins to grasp the concepts of the First House. The new beginnings here are centered on the attendant voyage of discovery that defines a person.

Who are you?

What will you become?

How do you discover your BEST Self?

The First House speaks to the realization of one's ultimate potential. This process of becoming a unique individual is one of the greatest contributions we make to the world in which we live.

The distinct qualities that we possess are often referred to as “personality traits”. The First House addresses the sum total of one's being. The packaging itself, or our outer being, is also governed by the First House - the physical body, the head and face in particular.

The First House also governs early childhood. Everything from our earliest steps to our view of the emerging world is considered here.

How will we develop?

What is our view on life?

It all begins at the First House and serves to shape us for all time.

It is governed by the zodiac constellation of Aries and the planet Mars. Aries are famed for being bold, dynamic, and for having a strong sense of Self, which is exactly the vibe that the First House is here for. Mars brims with boundless energy. The zodiac sign that is your Ascendant (and to what degree) will determine the overall influence the First House will have, as will the subsequent signs in each subsequent House. Example: My Ascendant is in 10 degrees 3 minutes Pisces. The characteristics of Pisces’ placement and ITS governing planet Neptune teaming up with Aries and Mars all will make up and influence my First House of Self.

What I do as an additional service for the people that take advantage of it, is the addition of Tarot into the realm of self-discovery within the entire Birth Chart. I will discuss the science of Tarostrology in a later post.

In summary, the First House speaks to the person we are becoming and will become, both internally and externally. It addresses our personality and presentation to the world, our essential qualities, approach to life, demeanor, and basic sensibilities. The inner Self and outer body are what the First House is all about.
